CAVITY WALL INSULATION
If your home was built after 1920, the chances are that its external walls are made of two layers with a gap or cavity between them. Cavity wall insulation fills that gap, keeping the warmth in to save energy. It can also help reduce condensation inside the house if this is a problem on your external walls.
Your home will usually be suitable for cavity wall insulation if:
its external walls are unfilled cavity walls
your cavity is at least 50mm wide (we have a special scheme for cavities less than 50mm)
the masonry or brickwork of your property is in reasonably good condition
it is more than ten years old (most newer houses will have insulation already)
the walls are not exposed to driving rain.
If your house was built in the last ten years or so, its walls are probably insulated already.
What if there is damp?
If you have any damp patches on your internal walls then they should not be insulated until the problem is sorted out. Speak to us about damp prevention.
How is insulation installed?
Filling cavity walls is not a job you can do yourself. We do the job in about two to three hours for an average house with easily accessible walls; it is simple, quick - and with no mess.
Most installers use Cavity Insulation made from shredded mineral wool (glass fibre), but we always use polystyrene beads (Diamond Bead), that can reduce the amount of heat escaping from your home by up to 35%. Cavity Wall Insulation saves up to £135 per year on energy bills and reduces CO2 emissions by up to 610kg.
N. B. Cavity wall insulation is achieved by blowing either mineral wool or small polystyrene beads through a series of small holes drilled in a careful pattern in your walls. Wool is a little cheaper, but bead offers better overall thermal performance and requires smaller holes and fewer holes (40% less than mineral wool), to be drilled in your mortar joints during installation.
Our Installers are
among the best in the business, and they will make good the holes with
closely-matching filler, so that you have a first-class result with the
minimum of fuss and disruption. Most of our customers are amazed at how
quickly and neatly this operation can be carried out and our work is
for 25 years by CIGA
